How much head room do I require?
The amount of headroom required depends greatly on A) the product being used and B) the overall width and height of the product. A larger shutter door will roll into a larger box and visa versa.
Our smallest box’s stat at just 165mm going all the way up to 500mm. Most roller shutter are around 205 – 350mm square.
How can they be operated ?
Our roller shutters, automatic garage doors, high speed doors and overhead sectional doors can be operated in a great selection of ways. They can be remote control, where by the door is operated by the click of a fob, operated by a simple push or key switch or even by a radar or induction loop system for more industrial applications.
What sizes do I need to obtain a quotation ?
In order for us to get a quick quotation out to you we will require some approximate sizes. If you could measure your structural opening in both width and height prior to giving us a call it will really help to speed the quotation process along. Try to measure in mm or cm as we need to convert imperial measurements in order to quote and manufacture. The will not be final sizes, they will only be used to give you an approximate cost for your roller shutter, garage door, steel door or retractable gate.
Is there a standard size for Shutter/Door ?
Unfortunately No. All of our products are bespoke manufactured to the exact mm. This means that every roller shutter, garage door or security gate is a perfect fit. Our fully trained engineers will conduct a site survey before manufacture commences to ensure nothing is missed.
How large are the shutter box’s ?
D & D Roller Shutters uses the latest aluminium roller shutter laths that are double skinned for extra strength whilst still being able to wrap up incredibly tight. This aluminium profile allows our domestic roller shutters to roll up into box’s as small as 165mm. The full range of box sizes depends on overall shutter sizes. The bigger the shutter the bigger the box. 165,205,250 mm.
Can they be remote control?
Yes. All of our electric roller shutters can work of a wide range of controls. The simplest is a push button. This can be pressed to move the shutter upwards or down. We can also install remote control units so that the shutters can operated by remote, group command units so all shutters can be operated of one fob or RTS built in wireless systems which is the latest in smoky home automation.
How do I measure to get a quick quote ?
Simply run a tape measure across the opening that you wish to cover! Its that simple! Then record the width and height of the opening to the nearest metric centimetre. Before you give us a call, be sure to have these measurements handy along with any colour or additional controls/specification you may have in mind.
What colours are available ?
All of our products can be powder coated to any RAL or BS Colour. Check out the standard product colours first though as with some products the colour may be included FOC.
Can I Choose any Colour?
All of our products can be painted or powder coated to any BS or RAL number you give us. Look out for the standard choice of colours as with some products – White, Black, Brown and Cream come as standard.
What are your Lead times ?
Lead times for most of our products are generally 2-3 weeks for supply and fit orders. Supply only orders can be turned around as quick as 1 week. This does depend on product and specification.
For larger more complex commercial and industrial installations lead times may be slightly longer.
Do I need a Fire Shutter or a Fire Curtain ?
To the untrained eye these two products might seem the same thing. In essence both products roll up like a shutter into a box and are used to delay and stop the spread of fire throughout a building. They are commonplace between kitchen servers and public areas where risk of fire may be high.
The difference is a fire shutter is made from a steel curtain and is for all every day use just a normal security shutter. However it has been tested to BS EN 16034:2014. This means it can last up to 4 hours in a fire depending on its rating. The fire shutter will then come down automatically if there is a fire upon receipt of a fire alarm signal.
A fire curtain is made from a fibreglass curtain. Often hidden within the reveal of a building or office, these are out of sight until the fire alarm goes off. When the curtain is activated, it creates a fire resistant barrier. This differs to a fire shutter as it offers no security and only fire protection.
